NaturaeSoft has announced that their software product and service line previously known under the NaturaeMed banner will now be known as NaturaeSoft. Dr. Tucker Meager, founder and co-owner of the company described the change as a natural one.

"We feel that NaturaeSoft better represents our software service line. We are excited about the change and our new NaturaeSoft website. We've been working hard to get this in place before the 2009 AANP Convention and are looking forward to a new era for the company. We have some new products to release at the convention, as well as some additions to our more established products."

When asked what the future held for NaturaeMed.com, Dr. Meager announced, "NaturaeMed.com is in the process of becoming a repository for the public to get information on Integrated Medicine Professionals and a place for providers to promote their practices. Back from AANP 2009

We had a great week in Tacoma last week catching up with some old friends and making some new ones. There was a great buzz around the booth as attendees were able to see the range and power of the NaturaeSoft line of services and products. We are looking forward to solving a lot of these ND's administrative, charting and website management headaches.

NaturaeSoft Releases OfficePro 2.1

NaturaeSoft announced the release of OfficePro 2.1 featuring several enhancements to the program. Some of the new features available in the new release include improved Superbill creation, the addition of more patient contact information to the visit list screen and the addition of a new print widget that allows easy access to daily print jobs such as front desk daily schedule, provider schedules and end of day reports.

The release of OfficePro 2.1 also includes some feature enhancements including a new front desk view that allows front desk users to view visits for all providers on one schedule in chronological order. More information was also added to provider's daily schedule printouts.

There were also a few bug fixes in the new edtion of OfficePro 2.1 that include fixes to patient sorting and vendor sorting issues. Another important bug fix was to the schedule which now retains the date being viewed while changing the schedule being viewed.

All current OfficePro clients will receive the updates to their system automatically and do not need to do anything on their end. We're excited to get these improvements to our clients in our mission to help our clients be as efficient and professional as possible at all times.

In medicine, and in all aspects of business, efficient and professional business systems and an effective business model are necessary for success. For many natural health professionals fresh from the labs and halls of Naturopathic Medical School, business systems do not come naturally. NaturaeSoft Completes System Upgrade

Last night NaturaeSoft completed a memory upgrade of its servers. This upgraded the memory capacity of the servers by 400%. All tests this morning show the servers running at peak efficiency. We expect that our users will enjoy improved system performance of all systems. We are excited about the improvements as part of our commitment to all of our users and their experience with our products.

NaturaeSoft completed this upgrade to ensure fast, stable system function for both the immediate and long term future. We will continue with further system upgrades into the future as needed including adding another server to our system this month. Welcome to our inaugural Wednesdays with Dr. Meager, a weekly installment of the NaturaeSoft blog. Dr. Tucker S. Meager is a Naturopathic Doctor that has owned several integrative medical clinics. He is also the founder and President of NaturaeSoft as well as the designer of OfficePro, ChartPro and NetPro. Over the coming months we will be discussing numerous topics on Natural Medicine, the business of running a successful practice and the role that systems can play in a successful practice.

Today we spoke with Dr. Meager about the current state of the natural medicine field:

Dr. Meager, Do you see barriers to success in natural medicine businesses?

In my perception, Most of the barriers to success that are out there can be easily overcome. Historically the profession experienced a tough barrier in the early and mid 20th century when it faced the perception of the public that conventional medicine could fix everything with a pill. There was a time where it seemed there was no need for people to take responsibility in their own health and the profession was essentially stripped of its status.

I think the profession did a wonderful job of healing itself from this and have left behind all perception of lack. I think the students that we graduate from our colleges and universities now have so many role models in successful integrated clinics that they can expect success both clinically and financially.

Dr. Meager, You mentioned a perception of lack. What does that mean to you?

For those who are stuck in a perception of lack, there is a feeling that they don't have what they need and that they need to take or manipulate or go without what they need to be successful. Let me say right now that each person creates their own definition of success, so when I talk about being successful, it is with this in mind.

It is important for natural medicine professionals to understand that the resources and systems to make them successful already exist and are out there for them. The more we look to those who have been successful in our profession as a model, the more we will create the institutional systems and memory for success.

What about at an individual practitioner level?

Certainly as human beings, we all have things that we need to heal from and there are some practitioners out there that don't see a financially successful practice as a possibility for themselves, so they continue to make decisions that make resources even more scarce in a self-fulfilling way. They allow a perception that they don't have the resources they need to be successful to keep them from putting in place the very systems that help create a successful practice. The unfortunate thing is that if they continue to come from this place of lack, success will elude them until they are no longer practicing because of burnout or ineffectiveness.

What do you see as the status of Naturopathic Medicine right now?

I think the profession is in the best position it has ever been in this country. There are so many successful integrated practices all around this country that we as a profession are building the institutional memory and systems that will create even more success in the future.

What advice would you offer to a recently graduated ND?

I think one of the most important things to do is to surround yourself with successful mentors. These are people that you can learn from that have already created a successful model for the profession. I also suggest that you participate in groups with successful people within your community. When you work with successful people, it will make you raise the level of your game.

The final thing that I would suggest is to put the systems in place for success right from the beginning. Too often I see people starting their practices who are waiting for the practice to succeed to put in place the systems that they so desperately need. The systems are what enable the success. Unfortunately, far too often those who wait for success to put in the systems never reach that success.

What are you referring to when you talk about systems?

I am talking about a system for every aspect of the practice from financials to patient flow to supplies to anything else that is necessary in the practice. A good system that has proven to be successful before is the best way to increase chances for future success. This is why I think mentors are so important. This is also why I started building software systems designed specifically to make integrated clinics efficient and successful. The systems are what are going to make our profession thrive.

OfficePro Update Release Scheduled for Monday

NaturaeSoft will be implementing an update release over the weekend with some new features, improvements and bug fixes. The new features will include deposits and the new CKFinder integration into the editor. The new deposit feature allows you to organize payments received into deposits and create deposit slips. The CKFinder is a more user friendly and functional interface for your image files in OfficePro.

The improvements feature a new spell check feature that allows you to spell check text in the text editor without having to download a separate application for your browser. The Patient Finder has also been improved now featuring just one search box that will filter both first and last names of patients for the specified letters. There are also improvements to the message system including a new feature – reminders. The reminders allow you to create a reminder that will show up under the patient that it is for and also in your message area.

Various bug fixes to increase system efficiency have also been addressed in this release. For a more detailed explanation of all the notes on this update you can consult the new Release Notes page of our website that will be implemented on Monday.

Good Resource for Naturopathic Students

Hi all,

I found this blog the other day with some great information for our Naturopathic Medical students out there. The blogger is a CCNM Student and he has written some excellent posts on the various challenges that students face as they work through their studies and prepare to practice. The blog does an excellent job of exploring the business side of practice and in this post writes about the importance of viewing the business models of current successful practitioners to help you prepare for your own practice.

I couldn't agree more. Naturopathic Students need to know that there are successful mentors, models and systems out there already in place that can help make them successful. That is one of the major reasons that Dr. Meager started this business was to provide these systems for success to the profession. Keep up the good work Richard!

We're excited to be going to Scottsdale, AZ next week for NDNR's "5 Keys To a Profitable Practice" event next week. There are some great speakers scheduled and we are very happy to be part of an event so closely aligned with our mission - the success of Naturopathic Doctors.

A few notes about NDNR 5 Keys Conference

We got back from the 5 Keys to a Profitable Practice Conference last week. The conference was put on by Naturopathic Doctor News and Review in Scottsdale, Arizona. The conference featured some excellent speakers. I can’t remember the last time I heard attendees of a conference speak so glowingly of all the speakers.

We had a chance to meet some great doctors in attendance and were happy for the opportunity to have a chance to interact in an intimate setting where we could spend time with the doctors as they came by to visit. NDNR Conference Exactly What the Profession Needs

The Five Keys to a Profitable Practice conference in Scottsdale, Arizona was a success despite its low turnout. Although the information provided is not rocket science or brain surgery, it was needed information for our profession and I do believe it benefited each of the participants significantly.

Dr. Michael Smith of NDcoach.com, a business consultant explained how the simple statement, "I am an expert in ..." will allow whomever you are speaking with to relate to what you do and visualize how to refer to you.
Too often we explain to people that we can help him with anything and for any concern, leaving them no real way of understanding how to relate to what we do. Dr. Smith also explained how to avoid the trap of saying that you're an expert in Naturopathic medicine as our medicine and the words naturopathic medicine usually do not have meaning to the majority of people.

Dr. Ofer, a naturopathic physician, spoke of charging more for your services in order to gain greater respect from those who pay for them. He spoke eloquently about the process we all must go through in finding confidence in what we charge and how we feel about the value of our medicine. One of the most valuable statements referred to the understanding that, "The more that you have, the more that you can give."

Overall the NDNR provided a valuable service to our profession and the allied integrative health professions as a whole by providing this lecture series. I do hope the limited attendance was accounted for by conflicting conventions as I know this information is needed for the majority of us.

Around one year ago limitations in our database model were discovered and an ambitious plan to overhaul our servers and our code base was put into motion. Over the last 8 months NaturaeSoft has revamped and redeveloped every aspect of our system from the ground up for greater speed reliability and functionality. Our new cloud servers are scalable, screaming fast, and custom configured for our the security, reliability and backup redundency.

The course of history of the Naturopathic profession is not to different, I truly beleif that we are not the doctors that our competitors complain do not have their act together. NaturaeSoft is proud to release OfficePro 4.0, our latest and greatest version of our service on our new secure cloud servers. OfficePro 4.0 is a revolutionary upgrade to the OfficePro service as we have moved to a powerful server database model that will allow us to provide faster and more efficient data processing and handeling, as well as allow for a new tier of OfficePro enterprise products that allow for large integrated centers and multiclinic facilities to use OfficePro semalessly.

Release Notes...

New servers – We have upgraded the infrastructure to house the Systems on bigger, faster, more powerful servers. You should notice the difference in accessing pages and reports. These servers also allow us to be more scalable. That means we can handle the load as your practice grows, and more NaturaeSoft customers join up.

New Data Base – We have made a big switch with the Data Base software on the back end. The new DB software handles concurrency much better. So, it’s much friendlier to multiple users in one practice. It’s faster and has more functionality. It’s more Scalable, and is all around a more Enterprise Class system. We are very excited about it, but we can’t mention the name. It’s a SeQreLt (the L is silent).

New Host – Our new servers are now hosted in a more secure and redundant locations. That is good news for you if you lay awake at night worrying about catastrophic disasters bringing down the network. There are many redundant “pipes” running to and from your data and you. If there is a train wreck severing the cables in one location, there is an alternate path to the servers coming in from another direction. Improved Disaster Recovery and Encrypted Data Backup solutions allow for peace of mind that your data is safe.

IP authorization process – Now any user with Admin level permissions can authorize IP access to your practice DB. This gives you more control over who can access your site, and from where without having to create a support ticket. Wield this power wisely.

New Admin\Support - We have consolidated support tickets into one portal for easier submittal and tracking. Click the “?” icon at the bottom of most OfficePro pages, and you will be directed to your own Practice’s Support page. You can now add notes and comments to existing tickets, eliminating the need to create a new ticket any time you want to update an issue.

CMS 1500 Form Generation – Now OfficePro allows for CMS 1500 form generation, and submittal. We are partnering with industry leader E-Claim to bring you this service.

More DX Coding Flexibility – You can now add multiple Diagnostic Codes to a specific service.
